DANCEWORKS 2010 - Important things to know about particpating in the show

Our Annual performance Danceworks 2010 will take place in the Cork Opera House on Tuesday 24th May at 7.30pm. The preparation time for the performance is a very busy and exciting period for the teachers and students at Donna’s Dance Studio. A great deal of hard work and organisation goes into making these events the wonderful success they are every year and it is important that parents play their role in helping us to make the experience a positive and enjoyable one for their children. If you have not participated before, and even if you have, there are a number of things you to consider in preparation.

The performance is an optional event. If you do decide to take part you must do so whole heartedly and with full commitment. If you feel you cannot make this full commitment then we ask that you to opt out of the event.

We ask parents to be aware that while each of the children perform as individuals they are also part of a team and must support their fellow team members by making sure that they attend not only all of their classes between now and the night of the performance but any extra rehearsals that are required. Children should also do any additional practice that teachers ask of them and be sure to attend on time for every session. We regret that any child who misses more than one class or rehearsal during the period will be unable to participate in the show. If new work is created during the missed classes you may not be included in that section of the piece.

We would ask you to remember that we do not charge for extra rehearsals and teachers are giving up their free time to be present. These extra rehearsals are for the benefit of your children and not the teacher.

Teachers will be very busy over the next few weeks and while it is important that you keep up to date and well informed with all that is happening we regret that teachers will not be able to interrupt their class time to speak with individual parents during this period. If you have any questions you are asked to check the Events section of the website or the notice board in the main reception first of all. If the information you need is not posted please contact the office and most importantly check with your child every week for any notes and information they received in class.

An additional rehearsal schedule for the next two weeks is currently on the site. This information will be updated on a weekly basis and it is your responsibility to check it each week. Aside from class attendance and rehearsal information the following are the immediate items of importance.

If you are not taking part in the show call our office on 021 4963173 no later than Sat March 19th.

As dance costumes are expensive to buy and only used for one night Donna’s Dance Studio operates a costume hire fee to reduce the cost to parents. The costume hire fee is €20 per costume and as a rule of thumb children will need a different costume for each class they attend. This hire fee must paid by Sat April 2nd. If you are unsure how many pieces you child is in you will find a list under the Danceworks section over the next few weeks in your account on the website.

We have a standard studio stage make up which is listed below.

Gold Digger and Mardi Gras Eyeshadow

Showbiz Lipstick.

Please arrange to purchase these items which are available in Boots Chemist as soon as possible. A hair and make-up demonstration will be held for all classes on the week of Tuesday May 3rd to Monday May 9th. Each child should have a parent or child-minder in attendance at these demonstrations which take place at the beginning of the class.

Finally, tickets for the big night will be available from the box office of the Cork Opera House from Monday 4th April and early booking is advisable.
